What does it all mean for our longevity, brain health, and overall wellness? Dr. Valter Longo is internationally recognized as a leader in the field of aging studies and related diseases. Known as a “Guru of Longevity,” Dr. Longo is currently Professor of Biogerontology and Biological Sciences and Director of the Institute of Longevity of the School of Gerontology at the University of Southern California in Los Angeles, as well as Director of the Oncology and Longevity Program at IFOM in Milan. He is also the Scientific Director of the Create Cures Foundation and the Valter Longo Foundation. Valter is the author of an extraordinary new book, The Longevity Diet. T

Dale E. Bredesen, M.D., is a professor of neurology at the Easton Laboratories for Neurodegenerative Disease Research at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Dr. Bredesen's laboratory focuses on identifying and understanding basic mechanisms underlying the neurodegenerative process and the translation of this knowledge into effective treatments for Alzheimer's disease and other neurodegenerative conditions. He has collaborated on the publication of more than 220 academic research papers. His work has culminated in the development of a protocol called ReCODE – reversal of cognitive decline – currently used by over 3,000 patients with the goal of not just preventing, but reversing Alzheimer's disease and mild cognitive impairment. ▶︎ Get the episode's show notes and transcript. https://www.foundmyfitness.com/episod... ▶︎ Learn more about Dr. Bredesen's ReCODE protocol. https://www.ahnphealth.com/inf

Ketogenic diet, vegan diet, paleo diet… we all know the success stories, but what we don’t often hear about the failures. The reality is, a lot of us are following these diets without seeing significant improvements in our weight and physical appearance. The Mental benefits of Fasting

Image
https://www.amchara.com/diet-fasting/the-mental-health-benefits-of-fasting Fasting is not a new phenomenon and has been around since hunter gatherer times. Human bodies are designed to experience period of ‘feasting’ and ‘fasting’. During times of fasting adaptations occur and certain processes are stimulated which enhance body functioning and health. We always take an evidence-based approach and in this article we take a look at the mental health benefits that occur with regular fasting. Defining a fast There are a variety of different fasts and the term intermittent fasting is now commonly used. With so much information available, there is no wonder there can be confusion surrounding fasting. Essentially, fasting involves set periods of time without food. This can be in a pattern like the  16:8 diet , a form of time restricted eating (TRE), or a more prolonged water only fast of 24 hours or more. Quite often the term fast is associated with calorie rest

The Mystery of Fast-5 and D.I.E.T.: Bert Herring MD

Originally destined for the surgical suite, Bert's experiences in the Marine Corps changed his outlook on medicine and the realities of global problems. After working at the National Institute of Health with a focus on cancer treatments, Bert found time to study global obesity. The outcome of this research sparked the Fast-5 weight-loss tool, which has helped thousands of people overcome obesity. It's a way of eating that is consistent with a lifestyle emphasizing simplicity and value—two virtues that are conspicuously absent in America's booming weight-loss industry. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance f

An enlightening and provocative presentation is given by Valter Longo updating audience on the benefits of fasting for life-extension. Dr. Valter Longo is the Edna M. Jones Professor of Gerontology and Biological Sciences, and Director of the Longevity Institute at the University of Southern California – Davis School of Gerontology, Los Angeles. Dr. Longo’s studies focus on the fundamental mechanisms of aging in simple organisms, mice and humans. The Longo laboratory has identified several genetic pathways that regulate aging in simple organisms and reduce the incidence of multiple diseases in mice and humans. His laboratory also described both dietary and genetic interventions that protect cells and improve the treatment and prevention of cancer and other diseases in mammals. He received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) in 1997 and his postdoctoral training in the Neurobiology of Aging and Alzheimer’s Diseases at USC.
